How It Works
Leaving Cycle Spanish Syllabus
These communicative areas (P1–P11) reflect the practical language situations through which students develop the competencies required for success in the Leaving Certificate Spanish examination. They are closely aligned with the Behavioural Objectives of the syllabus: I. Basic Communicative Proficiency, II. Language Awareness, and III. Cultural Awareness.
Through these communicative contexts, learners progressively strengthen their ability to understand and use Spanish across the four key skills assessed in the examination—listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students learn to interact effectively in real-life situations, express opinions, manage conversations, and interpret messages while becoming more aware of how the language works and how it reflects the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
By practising these communicative areas regularly, students build the confidence and flexibility needed to perform strongly across all components of the Leaving Certificate assessment.
